Makeup Primers: an Inexpensive Alternative for the Commercial Ones

Personally I was of the opinion that makeup primers was a clever gimmick by beauty companies to increase their sales.

But as much as it hurts to agree, primers play a pretty important role when it comes to makeup.

Not only do they make the colors pop, but they also make the products last longer, sometimes render water resistant qualities and prevents using more of the product.

However, the major minus we face, is the price, the price of a face or eye primer, usually equals the price of all the products used on your face or eye.

👎

The Urban Decay Primer potion is a product I absolutely love, the fact that it can also be used as an eye shadow for days you want to look super normal yet look pretty is one reason to love it, but for me, its quite expensive for a primer.

So, recently I tried to recreate the look, using just 2 products, my Famous by Sue Moxley eyeshadow palette 😍, and my most favorite Rose hip seed oil as a primer.
Top: NO Primer, Bottom: WITH Primer, note how pigmented the shadows look
(Plus I suck at swatches I guess)
It's a well known fact that light oils can be used as primers, Virgin coconut, Almond, Jojoba, Evening primrose or in my case rose hip seed oil 😉

My Holy Grail for now 😜

The best part about using oils as primers, is that it makes your product waterproof, and even after you wash it off, you've still got that healthy glow, and maybe a hint of shimmer.
I've been using it since my primer test, and sometimes I add a drop of oil when I use foundation, which i rarely do, or on my BB cream, you can do this even for your tinted moisturiser, just add a drop of oil. Your skin looks like skin, and the product glides on smoothly.
